Sanctuary Hosts Life-Changing Experience
for Middle School Students
March 1, 2025
An energetic and eager-to-learn group of students from Seabury Hall, an independent, co-educational, college preparatory school, spent two days of volunteering and receiving humane education at Leilani Farm Sanctuary.
The event began with a fun tour of the Sanctuary and an introduction to the animals during which the students learned how the animals came to be rescued.
During the two-day event, the kids helped with a variety of projects on the farm, including raking straw from barns, socializing guinea pigs, weeding pastures, and combing cats.
The group brought vegan lunches and enjoyed eating either in the screened pavilion or on the soft green grass in the shade of huge Monkeypod trees, where they were surrounded by friendly cats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, and turkeys.
Marsha Kelly, a faculty member remarked, “Thank you so much for two full days at the Sanctuary. They had so many things to say at the end of every day and had a great time. For several it was profound. I do believe some of the kids gained a fresh perspective on a vegan lifestyle and absolutely everyone has a beautiful, positive story to tell about their adventure.”
Instructor Stacy Ingrisano described the Sanctuary as “a true inspiration to all. The kids truly enjoyed bonding with the animals and learning all about farm life.”
Following the event, a student sent an especially heartwarming card. “I really enjoyed being out and about with all the animals. It was really exciting and fun. I loved all the cats (especially Henry), and I care for animals so much, so I’m so happy that you are saving them from abusive places! Thank you!”
